2008-09-12 - Water Photos

After my first session Friday, I was tired, (and still sore from the bike ride Wednesday and my 4.5 hours on the water Thursday). After a short rest, I took out my waterproof film camera to take some photos of the guy's up close on the water. Of course, once I got out there, the wind started to die. In spite of that, some of the photo's didn't turn out badly. I'm not sure what is going on with the meteor shower thing. It may be old film (too much airport radiation), or it may be a dirty machine in Walmart - either way it's on both the photos and negatives, so is permanent for these photos...
Hope you enjoy.......

2008-09-12- The Last Day...

The last day ...

Wind forecast was light at the Hatchery. We sailed on 4.7-5.6. Great day. A nice lull around 1:00 to remind Blain, Jim, Jim, and Brad, that they had to pack up and leave... then it blew again.
There was a big fire at Hood River which forced them to close the bridge, so we HAD TO SAIL LATE, until there wasn't any more wind.

After sailing we went to "Everyone's Brew House" in White Salmon (to avoid the traffic on the bridge???). When we got home, we went out for Italian at our favorite restaurant on top of the hill. After much wine and excellent food, we returned to the house for some "Jackass" on TV - Andreas's Favorite show. Nothing like watching some guy get his butt cheeks pierced together....

Kent, Greg, Harold and I left when Greg got up at 05:00am *&%&#*@(# ...

Got home by 10:30pm ish - long long drive. Hope the other guys had a good run home... Sounds like Mike had company (Squirrel. making a home in his engine compartment ...).

I may have one more post with some photo's I took on the water, but I have to wait for the "FILM" to get developed.......

Hope you enjoy the photos.

See you next year...

2008-09-11 Bobs Beach

My Rigs for the day... 5.6 Hucker. 90l Comp Wave Board - then 107L Free Board

Today was one of those days that you don't expect much of anything. I-Windsurf wasn't predicting much. Temira's forcast wasn't updated so was a day old.

What forecast we had, was for average winds - Eastbound, at Bob's Beach. As it usually blows early (and ends early) when it's easterly, I headed out early and dragged Harold and Kent with me.

As I drove down the river I wondered if we would get sailing at all. There would be some whitecaps - then nothing, then more whitecaps. Home Valley looked sailable, but not great.

When I got to Bob's Beach, the wind was blowing off the tops of the white caps.

I rigged my 5.6 and Comp Wave 90 Litre board. I was worried that I was to big. Kent started rigging, but thought I was rigged much to small.

I was on the water by 8:45. Way overpowered... I hung on. The waves aren't very big on Easterlies, so I was able to keep control.

Kent came out about 1/2 hour later, but quickly went back to shore to re-rig. It turned out, I didn't have to get out early. I finally came of the water at about noon. Everyone had been out.

Jim had a great time on his 5.3.

Gerry did some great port jumps....real floaters...

As usual, Blaine and Kent were ripping the place apart.

There were lots of fish nets on the far side. I think all of us took a turn getting hooked in them.

For a no wind day, we all had a great time.

Sorry - very few photos - I sailed too long, and was too tired when I returned.

After lunch, most of us went out again. The wind finally started to die around 2:00. Brad was heard saying - I wish the wind would quit so I wouldn't feel so bad about not sailing anymore....

After sailing we watched a fisherman string a net right across the approach to the launch. The locals got the local fish and game officer out to look. I'm glad this isn't my fight. Turns out it is a long standing rivalry between two Indian families.

Mike and Ross finished out the day with some kiting at Rooster Rock.

Back in Hood River, we had beer on the porch with Landlord Laury. Followed by dinner...

Jim S, Brad, Mike, Kent and Blaine went to the Three River Grill. Greg, Harold, Jim C, and I went to 6th street.

All of the guy's were a bit nervous about the "Ladies Night Out" in Edmonton. Repeated calls went unanswered. I guess the ladies had their cell phones off.....

Louise likes photo's of flowers. These were on the trail along the shore. Do you see the bee???

2008-09-10 Biking Day

Today was a no wind day in Hood River. As usual, it took a long time for everyone to decide what they were doing. Andreas headed to the coast, and was very disappointed that none of us went with him. He did his best to convince us, - we all feel guilty.

Ross did a 110km Lost Lake ride. He tried to talk Kent into going with him, but Kent (and the rest of us) told him he was nuts. He says that his bike is so lite that the can climb the hills no problem..... the carbon spokes and water bottle holder make all the difference.

Jim S. and Gerry stayed behind for a relaxing day. They were probably the smart ones...

The rest of us (Jim C, Brad, Blaine, Harold, Greg, and I took off towards the Rowena Lookout. My new rear gears made the work a lot easier. I didn't have any trouble on the first hills - just slow. At Moiser, instead of continuing east, we headed up "7 Mile Hill". It is a killer with an 11% grade. I had to stop twice on the steepest parts...
1/2 way up, Greg and I took the "Marsh Road Cut-Off, which took us to the Rowena Lookout. The rest of the gang, continued up the hill, and ended up in the Dalles. Our route totalled 46km, theirs was 72km (and more hills).

All in all it was a great day for a ride. It was a little cooler than it has been, although it was very hot in the sun. There was almost no wind, so headwind everywhere we went... There should be lots of sore muscles tomorrow....

It looks like we are planning Chinese for supper....
